Learning together for the future in a safe, happy and supportive community

Relationships & Health Education

At Wincham CP School, we understand that pupils must be provided with an education that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. A key part of this relates to relationships and health education, which must be delivered to every primary-aged pupil. Primary schools also have the option to decide whether pupils are taught sex education.

Relationships education focuses on giving pupils the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships, and to build their self-efficacy. Health education focuses on equipping pupils with the knowledge they need to make good decisions about their own health and wellbeing.

We understand our responsibility to deliver a high-quality, age-appropriate and evidence-based relationships, sex and health curriculum for all our pupils. We use a scheme of work called HeartSmart as a basis to structure our curriculum

We are a HeartSmart School!

HeartSmart is a creative approach that we use to build character, emotional health and resilience in children. Equipping children with foundational principles and skills that will improve their mental health and relationships and academic achievement, at Wincham, we want everyone to know that they are loved, cared for and valued.

We recognise the value of educating the heart alongside educating the mind.

We use HeartSmart as a scheme of work to do just that!

Here are some fun phrases that are part of the HeartSmart program and we are sure you'll start hearing them in your home as well. They're called the HeartSmart High Five and here's a brief overview:

Boris the Robot

You may hear about BORIS the Robot. He is made from bits and bobs of recycled rubbish, he plays an important role in HeartSmart. In school, we follow his story of learning not to listen to the Scrapman's voice (who says that he belongs on the scrapheap) through reading and referring to the book, Boris the Robot.

As our school and your child begins their HeartSmart Journey, we also invite you as a family to come on it too!

There’s a fantastic HeartSmart Family website that we advise you take a look at, you will find games, films and fun things to do!
